Red diesel is widely used to operate registered off-road vehicles, machinery, and commercial boilers; however, The Government's recent changes on the tax relief of gas oil means many industry sectors are no longer eligible to use gas oil/red diesel. As your local commercial and agricultural fuel supplier, we’ve put together a list of FAQs to help you better understand the do’s and don’ts of red diesel.
“Red diesel” is the most common name used for gas oil. To prevent its misuse in road vehicles, it is a legal requirement for red diesel to be marked with a red dye as well as chemical markers.
Red diesel is essentially the same as white diesel (DERV) however you are unable to use it in road vehicles and other prohibited vehicles and uses.
Some of the more common names you might hear red diesel referred as include tractor diesel, 35-second oil, agricultural diesel, cherry red, rebated diesel, and generator diesel.
