My tank is empty and its not that long since I had it filled

Are you sure the tank is empty?  Perhaps the gauge is faulty and this leads you to believe that your tank is empty. Check the oil level with a dipstick.

Check on your delivery history, its quite often longer than you think since your last delivery.

Consider the fact that it may have leaked away. Check the tank and surrounding ground for damp patches or for the smell of oil. Read our How to deal with fuel leaks and spillages article for futher advice.

We have had a number of cases where the underground pipe from the tank to the boiler has corroded and leaked underground. Your boiler engineer can test this for you.

It is also worth considering that your fuel may have been stolen.  This is not as uncommon as you may think.
