Vehicle Tracking

28 August 2007

We have decided to have vehicle tracking units fitted to our fleet of tankers. There are a number of reasons for this, the main one being that of security. We see lots of news stories about terrorism and this subject has become a major factor in the way we, being a carrier of dangerous goods, operate. Knowing exactly where our vehicles are is a major advantage in a crisis. Plus the fact that if a vehicle is stolen we will be able to tell the Police exactly where it located.

Apart from the unpleasant subject of terrorism and theft there are other reasons why trackers will be beneficial. There is the matter of driver well-being. Our drivers generally work alone and often find themselves in remote locations. This system will allow us to be aware of our drivers whereabouts and to know that he is safe.

Another benefit of the tracker is that it keeps us up to the minute with our drivers progress with his load. We often receive calls from customers asking of an ETA. In the past we have had to ring the driver to ascertain his position and then get back to the customer. With this system we are able to track minute by minute where the vehicle is in relation to its planned route and therefore be able to tell the customer that the tanker is half a mile away and will be with you in minutes.
