Lower Sulphur Levels in our Kerosene and Gas Oil

29 November 2007

Specification

The Sulphur in Liquid Fuels Directive 1999/32/EC states that from 1st January 2008 the burned Gas Oil and Kerosene suphur content should not exceed 1000 parts per million, (or as most people refer to it 0.1% by weight). A new specification sheet will be available from 1st January 2008.

The Environment

This is good news for the environment. When your burn any fuel containing sulphur, you produce sulphur dioxide.  This enters the atmosphere, mixes with moisture in the air and produces acid rain which has a detrimental effect on rivers, lakes, buildings etc.

 Growers

The new specification means that our Standard Kerosene will have a sulphur content at or below a level which, in the past, people have referred to as Low Sulphur Kerosene. In fact although the new legal standard states that the sulphur content should be no higher than 0.1% Wt, our typical sulphur content will continue be 0.05% (or half of the legal maximum, although this cannot be guaranteed).
