Elderly individuals, especially those over 75 living in rural communities, are particularly vulnerable during the winter months when a lack of heating causes severe health problems and even the risk of death.
What is Cold Weather Priority?
The Cold Weather Priority (CWP) program helps us here at WCF Fuels prioritize elderly and vulnerable customers, ensuring they have the fuel needed to stay warm throughout winter.
According to the Office for National Statistics, there were an estimated 23,200 ‘excess winter deaths’ – meaning avoidable deaths where cold is a significant contributing factor – in England & Wales in the 2018 to 2019 winter period. We also know (from NICE – the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence) that over 80% of these avoidable deaths occur in people aged 75 and over.
The WCF Fuels North West CWP scheme works with vulnerable customers including those aged 75 and over, enabling us to take proactive steps to prioritize their fuel deliveries, especially during fuel shortages or extreme cold weather.
Who can join?
The Cold Weather Priority scheme is open to individuals who meet specific criteria. If you, someone you know or within your household falls under any of the following categories, you are eligible to join:
How does the Cold Weather Priority Scheme work?
Our WCF Fuels Cold Weather Priority (CWP) scheme is here to support you.
The scheme works by providing an extra layer of support for elderly customers by enabling the UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) member fuel suppliers to prioritise those on the scheme during the winter months.
Our team are here to help and will work with you as the customer to ensure that you get the best service possible.
We offer a range of options for our customers that can suit their needs, from ordering over the phone or our top-up schemes. The Cold Weather Priority Scheme can work with all deliveries and ordering systems.
